Lakeshore spans parts of Lincoln and Royalton Township along the Lake Michigan bluff just outside St. Joseph, an area of winding, tree-lined residential roads that drop toward the water. The terrain here is hillier and more wooded than the flatter grid streets of Benton Harbor, and several roads dead-end at bluff overlooks or private beach access points, which changes how we plan a recovery — there’s often only one way in and out.
Being this close to the lake also means we see faster-forming winter weather here than inland — lake-effect bands can hit the bluff roads before they reach areas even a few miles inland, and the wooded curves ice up fast once temperatures drop.
Dead-end bluff roads mean we plan the exit route before we hook up a vehicle — there’s rarely room to turn a flatbed around once loaded, so positioning on arrival matters more here than almost anywhere else in our coverage area.
